Hyderabad: The Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) has directed its institutions not to permit students to leave campus to stage a protest demanding their issues be resolved.
The move follows a recent massive protest staged by students of Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women Nagarkunool at Shadnagar, demanding action against the principal over alleged irregularities and harassment.
Students had alleged that the principal was taking away provisions from the hostel mess to her home and harassing students for questioning her conduct. The protest resulted in traffic congestion at Town Square.
To ensure that students do not hit the roads, during a recent review meeting, zonal officers and district coordinating officers were instructed to ensure that all student needs were addressed promptly.
Meanwhile, the Society is considering roping in expert faculty from corporate junior colleges for imparting coaching for competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET UG. Expert faculty from Narayana and Sri Chaitanya junior colleges may be on-boarded for extending online classes for students in Centres of Excellence (COEs).
Further, the COEs were asked to ensure that best faculty was not relieved from their respective positions under any circumstance. They were also asked to ensure that student preferred lecturer be retained in the colleges. In case of vacancies arising due to faculty exit, the colleges were told to make immediate alternative arrangements.
Apart from arranging online classes with top-level teaching faculty for all COEs, the colleges have been directed to design and develop digital learning content immediately. This content, according to officials, will come in handy for students preparing for the JEE, NEET UG, and CLAT.
Chairing the meeting, along with TGSWRES secretary S Krishna Aditya, Principal Secretary to Government (SC Development) Dr. Jyoti Buddha Prakash directed verification of faculty competencies and student-teacher ratio in Society’s colleges and stressed the need to retain top performing teachers.
Dr. Jyoti Buddha sanctioned a warden post in all social welfare residential schools. This, according to officials, will reduce teachers’ non-academic responsibilities. Presently, teachers have to stay in the schools and colleges during the night and holidays as well.
Further, the colleges were directed not to permit outsiders to enter any school or college without permission from the principal, district coordinating or zonal officers.
