Hyderabad: Ruffled by a recent protest by women students in Shadnagar, the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) has now issued a new diktat, holding the house master/mistress responsible if a student is sent outside during the school hours.
In a circular – Safety and Security Measures in TGSWREI Society – the Society said, “The house master/mistress of the student will be personally held responsible if the student is sent outside during the school functioning hours or on weekly holidays/other holidays without obtaining permission from the principal concerned”.
This move comes in view of the recent massive protest staged by students of Telangana Social Welfare Residential College for Women, Nagarkurnool, at Shadnagar, demanding action against the principal over alleged irregularities and harassment.
During a recent Society’s review meeting, instructions were issued not to permit students to leave campus to stage protests demanding their issues be resolved and officials were directed to resolve students’ issues, if any, promptly.
Further, the Society in the circular instructed the principal concerned and house master/mistress to keep a close watch on students whose native places are ‘very near’ to the institution and others who frequently visit the institution. Signboards are also to be placed, restricting the entry of unauthorised persons into the institutions.
The principals were directed to object to the tendency of parents or other relatives of students visiting the campus frequently, either to meet their wards or take them home without a proper reason.
Further, the Society has imposed strict rules on girls’ students’ entry into the campuses after holidays or any other occasions. “If a girl student comes to the institution unaccompanied by the parent/guardian, such a student should not be allowed into the school,” it said.
Directing the institutions not to allow the parent/guardian to stay on the campus, the Society said that only a parent, on presenting the ID card that was previously submitted to the institution, would be allowed to visit the student, but that too, not frequently. Save for the death of a close relative or important ritual/ceremony at home, the institutions were directed not to send students home during working hours, Sundays or public holidays.
