Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A 40-year-old farmer was beaten to death in broad daylight by his cousins following a land dispute at Kharji village in Dahegaon mandal on Wednesday. Three persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder.
Dahegaon Sub-Inspector Raghupathi said the deceased was Odila Shankar, a resident of Kharji village, and the accused were Shankar’s cousin brothers Odila Satheesh, Sai and Santosh, all from the same village.
Odila Shankar suffered serious injuries on his head, throat, chest and stomach after being attacked by his three cousins who mercilessly thrashed him using sticks and boulders when he was alone in his farm, resulting in his instantaneous death. His maternal aunty, who was working in an adjourning field, tried to stop the attack, but in vain.
The farmer is survived by wife, two daughters and a son.
Satheesh, Sai and Santosh, sons of Shankar’s uncle had been requesting him to share five acre of property registered on his father’s name, but originally bought by their grandparents. But, Shankar was not willing to divide the property and was also enjoying financial benefits under Rythu Bandhu for the past four years.
These two factors angered the cousins and they decided to eliminate him, preliminary investigations by the police revealed. The three pierced his throat with a stick and battered his head with boulders. The horrific murder created a sensation in Kharji and surrounding villages.
ASP Sudheendra and Kaghaznagar Rural Inspector P Rajendra Prasad visited the scene of the crime and inquired into the incident.
Based on a complaint lodged by Parvati, Shankar’s wife, a case was registered against the three.
