Hyderabad: The Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) chief Sundeep Kumar Makthala launched a 45-day agriculture Hackathon at Yadavalli village of Utkoor mandal in Narayanpet district on Thursday to look for solutions to various issues plaguing the farm sector and make it a profitable venture by bringing in innovations.
The hackathon is the first of its kind in the country though similar events were held elsewhere but they were in virtual mode, Sundeep said.
According to him, hackathons are generally held in plush premises or virtually. But agriculture hackathon is being organised on the field. Two acres have been identified for the massive event, where five-member teams comprising techies and agri experts will participate.
The teams will study and implement various agricultural practices and innovations, sans the use of fertilizers and pesticides. The issues faced will be discussed and will be addressed accordingly by the agriculture experts.
The hackathon will witness events and all agri-aspects right from tilling of land and sowing seeds to the harvesting of the crop. Some 60 techies, who usually work on computers, descended on agri-farms to till land with tractors and oxen.
It’s a unique and learning experience, the techies said after participating in the event. They lauded Sundeep saying the unique event throw up solutions to various agriculture problems and will encourage more people to take up agriculture as a profession.
Speaking on the occasion, Sundeep said the hackathon was a unique concept and will see techies taking part in farm activities and finding solutions to the issues faced in the sector.
The event will encourage farm mechanisation. The first phase will see initial farm activities like tilling of land to sowing seeds while the second phase, to be conducted later, will see the harvesting of crops.
TITA and Telangana Agriculture Engineers Association are extending support to the event. Those interested in taking part in the event can contact 8123123434.
