A few Adivasi organisations are opposing the programme, citing it as an attempt to politically hijack the World Adivasi Day celebrations
Hyderabad: Even as the Congress is making elaborate arrangements for the launch of its Dalit-Girijan Dandora on August 9 at Indervelli, a few Adivasi organisations are opposing the programme, citing it as an attempt to politically hijack the World Adivasi Day celebrations.
“August 9 is celebrated as World Adivasi Day and it is like a festival for Adivasis. By organizing a political programme on the same day, the Congress party is politically hijacking the day and we are opposing it” said Adivasi Hakulla Porata Samithi Adilabad unit president Godam Ganesh.
Adivasis celebrate the day as per their customs and traditions. Congress party can organize the programme on any day and there was no objection. It is like insulting the community leaders, who had sacrificed their lives for Adivasis cause by organizing a political programme on the day, he said.
Disagrees with Revanth
Ganesh disagreed with the contention of the TPCC president A Revanth Reddy that adivasis and lambadas fought together for their rights and lands. “This is absolutely wrong and the Congress president needs to get his facts right”, he argued.
Lambadas had never participated in any agitation along with Adivasis. Tribal leaders Kumram Bheem had fought for the rights and lands and many had sacrificed their lives in Indervelli and at other places towards this cause, he said.
Meanwhile, the Congress party is going ahead with arrangements for the Dalit-Girijan Dandora. MLA Jagga Reddy is holding meetings with leaders from 18 constituencies neighbouring Indervelli to ensure the programme is a success.
A poster has been released by the party and a series of programmes and meeting are scheduled from August 9 to September 17 for 40 days across the State as part Dalit-Girijan Dandora to oppose anti-Dalit programmes by the State Government.
