Khammam: Two container hospitals, functioning as prefabricated health sub-centres to ensure emergency medical care for people living in remote agency villages, have been set up in the district.

The district forest department and the Integrated Tribal Development Authority, Bhadrachalam have established the container hospitals at Relakayalapalli village under the Primary Health Centre in Singareni mandal and at Chandraiahpalem village under the Gangaram Primary Health Centre in Sathupalli.

The hospitals have been set up with funds from the Telangana Forest Development Corporation Limited. Emergency medical equipment and furniture have been handed over to the facilities, District Forest Officer Siddharth Vikram Singh said.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Karepally PHC medical officer Dr Suresh said health staff such as an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM), a mid-level health provider (MLHP) and ASHA workers from the respective PHCs would be available for villagers twice a week. The container hospitals would help villagers access timely primary healthcare, as their habitations are located far away from the PHCs. Besides regular healthcare services, immunisation activities would also be carried out for locals at the facilities, he said.

It may be noted that similar facilities have also been set up at Allapalli, Gundala, Parnasala and Vinayakapuram in Aswaraopet mandal in Kothagudem district, as well as at Pocharam in Bandhala gram panchayat of Tadwai mandal in Mulugu district by the ITDA.
