Hyderabad: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday barred three universities – OPJS University, Rajasthan, Sunrise University, Rajasthan and Singhania University, Rajasthan, – from enrolling students into the PhD programmes for the next five years i.e., from academic year 2025-26 to 2029 – 30.
The UGC’s Standing Committee, which examined the information submitted by the universities, found that the three universities did not follow the provisions of the UGC PhD regulations and academic norms for award of PhD degrees.
The three universities were given an opportunity to explain why they failed to comply with provisions of the UGC PhD regulations. As responses received were not found satisfactory, the Standing Committee recommended the UGC to debar these universities from enrolling the PhD students for the next five years.
“Appropriate action will be taken against institutions that fail to follow regulations,” said Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman UGC and added, “We are also in the process of checking the quality of PhD programs in a few other universities.”
The UGC advised prospective students and parents not to take admission in the PhD programmes offered by these three universities.
