Warangal Urban: Close on the heels of the brutal murder of lawyer couple Gattu Vamana Rao and P V Nagamani in Peddapalli district, unidentified assailants allegedly attacked Ennamsetty Venugopal Rao, a prominent lawyer in Warangal and General Secretary of the District Bar Association, on Wednesday night.
“Though the incident happened on Wednesday, we did not give any information to the press since we believed that the police would act swiftly and catch the culprits. But there has been no progress at all in the investigation though 48 hours have passed since then,” said Ennamsetty Akhil, Venugopal Rao’s nephew and an advocate himself.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Akhil, who lodged a complaint with the Subedari police station the same day, said his paternal uncle was attacked when he went to an ATM centre at Vinayaka Complex on Hunter road. “He was hit by two unidentified persons with a weapon or tool on the head and face causing injuries. Following, he was taken to a private hospital and MRI scanning was done. He is now taking treatment at home,” he said, and found fault with the police for their complacent attitude in the case.
“It is sad that the police are not acting even though the victim is a prominent lawyer. If this is the situation, we can imagine the plight of the common man who come to the police station with complaints,” Akhil added. It is said that members of the Bar Association also urged the police to speed up the investigation to know whether the culprits wanted to kill him or just tried to threaten him with the attack.
Police, however, maintained that they had registered an FIR under section 324 R/W 34 IPC.
