Warangal: A young mountaineer from Warangal Akhil Rasamalla who had already conquered Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Panja Chilla in Nepal, is all set for another adventure expedition. This time, he is going to conquer Mount Elbrus in Russia. Mt Elbrus is the highest mountain on the European continent.
Akhil, a resident of Kishanpura in Hanamkonda, told Telangana Today that he and five other enthusiasts from South India would fly to Russia on Saturday. Transcend Adventures of Hyderabad will be guiding him on the expedition.
The new expedition is being sponsored by Warangal West MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, Warangal Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Diddi Kumara Swamy, Maangalya Shopping Mall chairman Kasam Namashivaya, and others.
“District Collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu also sanctioned Rs 50,000 for me. But due to some technical reasons, I have not yet received the money. In view of this, I had to borrow the remaining amount from friends and relatives as the tour costs Rs 3 lakh,” Akhil said. He would in all probability scale the Mt Elbrus on August 15 and unfurl the Indian national flag on the occasion of 75th Independence Day.
Akhil said that the Mt Elbrus is situated in the western part of the Caucasus and is the highest peak of the Caucasus Mountains. “It is a dormant volcano and it rises 5,642 m (18,510 ft) above sea level, and it stands in Southern Russia”.
Akhil has also got his name inscribed in the High Range Book of World Records for scaling the 6,153 meter Stok Kangri and received the laurels of Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. He along with G Mallikarjun displayed a ‘Longest Indian Flag’, measuring 365 ft in length and 6.5 ft in height on Mt. Stok Kangri in Ladakh on August 15, 2019. But Akhil is not the one, who wishes not to dwell in past glories, said that his next mission is to scale the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, at the earliest.
“I was inspired by S Anand Kumar of our state, who was the first Dalit to climb the world’s highest peak, in 2014. He was just 17-year-old when he climbed Mt Everest, while studying in Class XII in the social welfare residential school. I too decided to pursue mountaineering and joined the Bhongir School of Rock Climbing and underwent training for the Basic Mountaineering Course at Bhongir and in Sikkim,” Akhil narrates.
