HYDERABAD: “When we have a senior group with experience, that helps and as long as we are playing good cricket, we are happy, still midway through the season and we are not taking anything for granted,” said Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene after his team outclassed Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai on Sunday night.
In the post-match briefing, Jayawardene said they had areas to improve, needed to keep hitting those markers and it was a good win today and just keeps that momentum going.
“I think Rohit was brilliant up front, he took control of the power play. Obviously Ryan, again after a good start, lost the wicket. He knew they were going to bowl a lot of spins, so he took the decision to send SKY (Surya Kumar Yadav),” the head coach said.
“They (Rohit and SKY) handled that situation really well, so I can’t pick one of them because I think they were outstanding today, both of them,” he said.
“It’s refreshing to see all these young guys coming every year and doing that, but the key is to be consistent over a period of time and that’s something that we need to wait and see. (2:51) It’s not like he was not willing to box or get with someone,” Jayawardene said.
“I think for a guy (Rohit) with that kind of experience, you literally leave them be and have those positive conversations and say that let’s do the match-ups and see how he gets going and keep those positive intent,” he said. “I’m pretty happy with the approach. He never changed his approach. The intent was there from day one, even though he was failing,” he added.
