Annam Srinivasa Rao handed over Adilakshmi to family members in the presence of Aluru police.
Khammam: Annam Foundation of Khammam has reunited a woman who left home 14 years ago, much to the joy of their family members.
The foundation’s founder, a para-volunteer, Annam Srinivasa Rao, who runs an old age home-orphanage, received a call from Khammam RTC officials in February saying that an unidentified 50-year-old mentally ill woman had been begging at the old bus stand area for some time. They wanted him to look after the woman. Srinivasa Rao reached the spot and spoke to the woman, but she was unable to say anything about her whereabouts. The RTC officials then handed over the woman to the foundation.
After giving her treatment and proper food for a few days, the woman recovered. She revealed that her name was Gouramma and that she belonged to the Peddahottur village of Aluru mandal, Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh and that her husband’s name was Narasimha.
Srinivasa Rao then contacted Aluru police and informed them about the woman. The local Inspector of Police contacted the woman’s family members, and told them the woman in Khammam was being looked after by the foundation. The woman’s younger brother, Prasad called the foundation and spoke to his sister.
A few days ago, Srinivasa Rao took the woman to Aluru and, in the presence of Aluru CI Raju Venkatesh, reunited her with her family members. The family members told Srinivasa Rao that the woman’s original name was Adilakshmi. She had no children as her husband had abandoned her due to her mentally unstable condition and married another woman.
Adilakshmi’s aged mother, Anjinamma, father Pedda Basappa, and brothers Mallikarjuna and Prasad thanked Srinivasa Rao for reuniting the woman with the family after 14 long years.
“Annam Foundation is very happy to help the woman meet her family members and reconnect the broken ties. Now the woman could live a healthy and happy life with her family members,” Srinivasa Rao told Telangana Today.
