30 to 50 mm of overnight showers hit Hyderabad, as city wakes up to cold and damp conditions
Hyderabad woke up to cool, damp conditions on Monday after heavy overnight showers of 30–50 mm, with thunderstorms pounding several areas in GHMC, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts until early morning.
Hyderabad: Heavy overnight showers resulted in Hyderabad waking up to a cool and damp Monday morning.
The rainfall on Sunday night measured between 30 mm and 50 mm in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
Late on Sunday night, active thunderstorms accompanied by lightning pounded Northern, Western, and Eastern regions under GHMC. Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts bore the brunt of the thunderstorms, which continued until the early hours of Monday.
The rainfall measuring stations of Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) indicated that by Monday (8.30 am), the areas under Uppal (Medchal-Malkajgiri) district received a maximum of 47.8 mm of rainfall, Gajularamaram under Quthbullapur mandal (31 mm), University of Hyderabad areas under Serilingampally mandal (30.5 mm), Kushaiguda (Kapra) and Malkajgiri (25.8 mm), Chandanagar under Serilingampally (24.8 mm), Kakatiya Hills Madhapur received 22 mm.
Heavy downpours were witnessed across almost all the eastern parts of Hyderabad on Sunday night, including areas such as Ghatkesar, Keesara, Bhongir, Kapra, Sainikpuri, Dr A S Rao Nagar, Dammaiguda, Nagaram, ECIL, Alwal, Quthbullapur, Uppal, Hayathnagar, Vanasthalipuram, and LB Nagar. Several regions of Secunderabad, including Marredpally, were also affected.
Earlier on Sunday evening, heavy rains were also reported in other areas, including Gachibowli, Kondapur, Kukatpally, Ameerpet, KPHB, Chandanagar, Miyapur, Balanagar, Alwal, and areas falling under the Serilingampally zone.
