400 new Rythu Vedikas to come up in Telangana
Construction of 95 per cent of the sanctioned Rythu Vedikas was already completed and the remaining five per cent would be completed in four to five days
Kodakandla: Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy said that 300 to 400 new Rythu Vedikas would be set up in the State in the coming days in addition to 2,601 that were already sanctioned. “Construction of 95 per cent of the sanctioned Rythu Vedikas was already completed and the remaining five per cent would be completed in four to five days,” he said.
The Minister also said that the main objective behind setting up the Rythu Vedikas is to provide a platform for farmers to discuss the issues related to farming and marketing of their produce and finally help the farmers to earn profits.
“The TRS government, apart from implementing several pro-farmer schemes and waiving off farm loans, is constructing the Rythu Vedikas in all the agriculture extension officer’s clusters in the State with a view to create awareness among farmers about all welfare schemes, subsidies available, etc.,” he added.
While the State government earmarked Rs 572.22 crore towards the construction cost, the cost of each Rythu Vedika is Rs 22 lakhs. The share of the agriculture department in the construction is Rs 312.12 crore, while the share of MNREGS is Rs 260.10 crore.
According to the agriculture officials, Rythu Vedikas are first-of-its-kind in the country and in the world where a platform is being created for the farmers. The Rythu Vedikas will help in mobilising the farmers to organise themselves in to groups for attaining their ultimate objective of getting the remunerative prices, better marketing facilities, higher productivity and ultimately making the agriculture profitable.
This will help the government know ground level problems and difficulties faced by the farmers and to formulate new strategies and upgrading the existing system to make the agriculture more profitable and sustainable besides making farming a regulated and remunerative based on the global market intelligence.
“The Rythu Vedika will serve as a platform to impart skills to the farmers, and help stabilise the income of farmers by providing the information on the institution finance and to ensure their continuance in farming. The Vedikas will also help in encouraging farmers to adopt innovative and modern agriculture practices and ensure flow of credit to the agriculture and allied sectors,” said an official adding that they would help the farmers interact and share the knowledge.
Rythu Vedikas consist of two rooms and two toilets with a plinth area of 2046 Sq. Feet. An amount of Rs 350 crore has been earmarked in the 2020-21 year under Normal State Plan of Agriculture Department. Mission Bhagiratha is providing tap water connections to Rythu Vedikas. They will get the internet connectivity/DTH with a TV set.
Meanwhile, Rythu Bandhu State president Palla Rajeshwar Reddy has donated 15 guntas of land for the construction of the Rythu Vedika at his native village Sodashapllay of Velair mandal in Warangal Urban district besides spending money from his pocket.
