50 days on, 22 districts in Telangana face rain deficit

Average rainfall by this time of every year in Hyderabad is 179.5 mm while the actual rainfall received is 83.6 mm, which is 53 per cent deficit rainfall

Hyderabad: It’s been nearly 50 days since the onset of southwest monsoon in Telangana. However, its performance has continued to remain below par, as just 11 districts so far have received normal rainfall while the remaining 22 districts including Hyderabad and its surrounding districts are still in the deficit list.

Overall, between June 1 and July 14, the State has received deficit rainfall, latest rainfall data from Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) has indicated. The average normal rainfall by this time of the year is 228.1 mm while the State has so far received 175 mm rainfall, which is 23 per cent deficit.

The 11 districts that have received normal rainfall include Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Nizamabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Kamareddy, Siddipet, Mahabubnagar, Jogulamba Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool and Khammam.

The average rainfall by this time of every year in Hyderabad is 179.5 mm while the actual rainfall received is 83.6 mm, which is 53 per cent deficit rainfall. The average rainfall by this time of the year in the neighbouring Medchal-Malkajgiri district is 178 mm but it has only received 74 mm, which is 58 per cent deficit rainfall.

Similar is the situation in Rangareddy, where the actual rainfall received so far is 124.6 mm against the 156.7 mm rainfall, which is 20 per cent deficit. Vikarabad district has fared better, as it has so far received 143.8 mm rainfall while the normal rainfall till this month is 190.6 mm, which is 25 per cent deficit.
