Hyderabad: The Congress seems to have not learnt lessons from the past. After being rejected in Maharashtra last year, Congress is making yet another attempt to win the voters’ confidence in New Delhi by showcasing the ‘implementation’ of guarantees in Telangana and roping in State leaders to campaign for the party.
Incidentally, a majority of electoral promises are yet to be implemented in Telangana, but the Congress leaders are claiming in Delhi that all promises have been implemented in Telangana.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his cabinet colleagues had campaigned for the Congress party extensively during the Maharashtra assembly elections held in November last. The Telangana ministers had campaigned vigorously in the constituencies bordering Telangana and with a high percentage of Telugu population.
They had claimed that the guarantees assured to the Telangana people were being implemented ‘successfully’.
However, save for the free bus travel for women, partial implementation of 200 units free power supply and Rs.500 gas cylinder supply under subsidy, many promises were yet to be implemented even after a year since the Congress came to power in Telangana.
The party had promised to pay a monthly assistance of Rs.2500, under Rythu Bharosa, both land-owning farmers and tenant farmers were promised Rs.15,000 per acre annually, landless labourers were assured assistance of Rs.12,000 per annum, monthly unemployment allowance of Rs.4,000 to every unemployed youth, electric scooters were promised to all young women above 18 years of age and pursuing education. The list of such promises can go on but they have not been delivered.
The Congress leaders claim about waiving crop loans of Rs.2 lakh of 25 lakh families with Rs.21,000 crore but many farmers were still running from pillar to post to get loans waived. Further, farmers, who secured loans over Rs.2 lakh, are still clueless about the waiver of their loans.
Similarly, the Congress government claims to fill up 55,000 vacancies within one year. However, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) slams the Congress for claiming credit for the nearly 30,000 jobs notification issued during its tenure. The Congress had also promised to fulfill 2 lakh jobs within one year and it failed in delivering this promise.
Apart from the guarantees, the Telangana Congress leaders had stressed on the need to usher in change of governance. Since the Telugu speaking people in Maharashtra were very well aware about the ‘successful’ implementation of the guarantees in Telangana, they rejected the Congress in Maharashtra.
Staying oblivious to these facts, the Congress has announced five guarantees in New Delhi and continues to stress on the need to appeal for a change in governance.
Unlike in Telangana, this time the Congress is promising 300 units free power supply, Rs.8,500 monthly stipend to educated, unemployed youth for one year, Rs. 25 lakh health insurance for all, Rs.2500 monthly allowance for women and Rs.500 gas cylinder and ration kits.
Telangana Chief Minister had even said that he would take the responsibility of fulfilling the promises made by the Congress to the people in New Delhi. He also assured that if need be, all support would be extended to the New Delhi government by the Telangana government in administration and governance.
