Amid dramatic scenes, election of Kyathanpalli chairperson postponed
The election of chairperson and vice-chairperson of Kyathanpalli Municipality was postponed due to lack of quorum, triggering political drama. The BRS accused the Congress of interference, while officials cited councillors’ absence. Similar scenes unfolded in Kagaznagar Municipality.

Mancherial: Amid dramatic scenes, the election of the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the 22-member Kyathanpalli municipality has been postponed due to lack of quoram for the special meeting for Tuesday.
The BRS leaders claimed that the meeting was not held even as they were ready to prove the majority for bagging the post of chairperson. They alleged that the officials did not organise the meeting as per instructions of the Congress government. They requested officials not show partiality in conducting the meeting.
However, municipal officials clarified that the newly elected councillors did not attend the meeting till 11 am, prompting them to postpone the event for Tuesday due to insufficient quoram.
While the BRS-CPI alliance won 14 wards, the Congress stood at the second place with seven wards. The Congress drew flak for creating problems to the BRS in securing the power.
BRS district president Balka Suman, who staged a sit-in on the road, slammed the Congress for disrespecting the people’s mandate.
He accused it of trying to gain power by hatching conspiracies. It was learnt that the party was mulling to take legal course to thwart attempt to hurdles created by the Congress in capturing the chairperson post. Labor minister Dr G Vivek is said to making moves to prevent the BRS from getting the chairperson post.
Earlier in the morning, a large number of cadres of the Congress, led by DCC president P Raghunath Reddy arrived at Kyathanpalli municipality.
They were reportedly on the prowl to lift the BRS nominees while they were heading to the meeting. They tried to barge into the municipality, but the police prevented their attempt. The police also stopped the BRS councilors when they reached the civic body at 11.30 am.
Meanwhile, the process was postponed due to lack of quorum for 30-membered Kagaznagar civic body. Eleven councillors of the BRS, two Independents and an AIMIM councilor turned up for the meeting. The BRS nominees registered victory from 11 wards, while the Congress won nine wards, BJP bagged five wards, resulting in a hung verdict. Four Independents and an AIMIM councilors registered victory here.
