Nirmal: The Nirmal police booked 28 cases so far and took 45 people into custody, including two councillors and a few juveniles, for their alleged involvement in the recent communal clashes in Bhainsa.
In a press release, in-charge Superintendent of Police Vishnu S Warrier said no untoward incidents were reported in the town in the last one week. He said the cases were registered against those who indulged in clashes and arson.
He said as many as 29 suspects were still at large and added 78 persons, who were allegedly involved in the clashes, were identified. He appealed to the public not to believe in rumours being spread on social media and asked not to forward unauthentic messages.
He said administrators of WhatsApp groups would be held responsible if the group members spread rumours. As a preventive measure to stop circulation of unconfirmed messages, photos and videos, internet services have been suspended across the district since March 8.
The prohibitory orders imposed under Section 144 CrPc were relaxed to enable civilians purchase groceries from 7 am to 1 pm.
