In a significant political development ahead of the local body elections, the BRS district unit in Medak welcomed several defectors from BJP and Congress. Medak: Ahead of the forthcoming local body elections, the BRS district unit in Medak received a boost on Saturday as several BJP and Congress workers joined the party.

Accompanied by former Medak MLA M Padma Devendar Reddy, the workers met former Minister T Harish Rao at his residence in Kokapet and formally joined the BRS.

Welcoming them, Harish Rao expressed confidence that the BRS would not only secure the Zilla Parishad chairman post but also win a majority of Mandal Parishad president posts. He accused the Congress government of “cheating farmers, students and all sections of the people” despite coming to power with 420 promises.

Rao said the BRS government under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had implemented welfare programmes and development works, while the present Congress government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had “pushed Telangana into crisis with mindless decisions”.

He alleged that the panchayat administration had been paralysed due to a lack of funds, pointing out that grama panchayats which once won national awards under BRS rule were now struggling to even run garbage-collecting tractors for want of money to buy diesel.

Rao declared that people would “teach a fitting lesson” to Congress in the upcoming polls and urged the BRS cadre to put in all efforts to win the maximum number of ZPTC and MPTC seats.
