Nalgonda: Former Chairman of Telangana State Legislative Council Gutha Sukender Reddy on Sunday said the Narendra Modi government at the Centre was showing discrimination towards Telangana after realising there was no scope for BJP in the State.
Speaking at a media conference held in his camp office at Nalgonda, Sukender Reddy said the Gazette notification finalising the jurisdiction of Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) would impact the interests of Telangana State. “The Centre conspired to grab the powers of the State on usage of its share in river waters. We can’t use a drop of water from the irrigation project without getting the nod from the Centre. It is unfortunate that Dindi and Musi projects, which were constructed during Nizam rule, were also brought under KRMB in the notification,” he said.
Moreover, the Centre has fixed a six month deadline to get the required permissions for irrigation projects taken up by the State government when applications submitted by the State government for permissions and environmental clearances for irrigation projects were kept pending by the Centre for years, he said.
Sukender Reddy said Telangana would be forced to depend on Centre’s decision to utilise water from Alimineti Madhav Reddy Project (AMRP), Dindi project, Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP), Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP), flood canals and lift irrigation schemes. “Is this Centre’s conspiracy to push back Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar into drought hit districts? he wondered.
Stating that international river water sharing rules are applicable to water sharing between states in the country, he said that Telangana State should get share in the Krishna river water in proportion to its catchment area. He pointed out that 63 per cent of its catchment area are in Telangana.
He alleged that discrimination of the Centre towards Telangana state began from handing over seven mandals in Khammam district to Andhra Pradesh state and continuing in all matters. The BJP Telangana state president Bandi Sanjay, who would make a bombastic statement, should answer to the attitude of the Centre. The people of Telangana would also teach a lesson to the BJP for its act, he cautioned.
