Visakhapatnam: The Centre has sanctioned Rs. 55 crore out of the Rs.70 crore proposed by the State government to develop the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimhaswami temple at Simhachalam under the PRASAD (pilgrimage rejuvenation and spiritual augmentation drive) scheme of the Central government.
Disclosing this at a media conference here on Friday, Tourism Minister Avanti Srinivasa Rao said he was very happy at Centre’s response. He thanked the Union Minister for Tourism G. Kishen Reddy who had sent Tourism Under Secretary SS Verma to inspect the project.
The minister said that the funds would be utilised for restoring the footpath from Madhavadhara to Simhachalam. Though there was a proposal in the past to build an underpass, it was dropped on the advice of China Jeeyar swami, he recalled.
He said that the Pushkarani – temple pond – would also be developed and bathing ghats and changing rooms, illumination and landscaping would be taken up. A yaga sala would be constructed at the temple for performing rituals on a regular basis, he revealed. “There is a rush of devotees during auspicious times like Saturday, Ekadasi, and Chandanotsavam. The queue complex will be developed on the lines of Tirumala and a waiting hall with 2,000 capacity will be built,” he announced.
