Hyderabad: In the coming few months, Telangana will witness significant developments aimed at taking State-run tertiary health care services and medical education to the next level. As part of these efforts, decks are being cleared for Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to lay foundation stone for construction of four new high-end super-specialty hospitals in Hyderabad and expedite the works related to construction of eight medical colleges across Telangana.

For areas under GHMC and peripheral regions, the Chief Minister will be laying foundation stone to develop four super-specialty hospitals, which will match the medical infrastructure standards set by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, Health Minister, T Harish Rao said on Friday.

The four super-specialty hospitals for urban population in GHMC, dubbed as Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) will come up at TIMS Gachibowli, Chest Hospital, Sanathnagar, Alwal and Dilsukhnagar. The districts where the eight medical colleges are coming up include Mancherial, Ramagundam, Jagityal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Sangareddy.

“It is our responsibility to complete the construction of the proposed medical colleges strictly based on the guidelines of National Medical Commission (NMC) and on schedule. The Chief Minister, who is keenly following all these proposed medical colleges and hospitals, has directed us to leave no stone unturned to ensure the infrastructure at these medical colleges and hospitals are on par with high standards set by corporate hospitals,” Harish Rao said while reviewing the ongoing construction work of the medical colleges and plans related to the 4 medical colleges in Hyderabad.

The Health Minister on Friday held a detailed meeting on the construction plans of the eight medical colleges, four super-specialty hospitals and one multispecialty hospital in Warangal with executing agencies and engineers who are personally involved with these mega-projects.

The review meeting also focused on the upcoming health and medical education hub at Warangal Medical College and Superspecialty Hospital, which is spread over a land of 215.35 acres. The State government has already given administration sanction to construct a 2000-bed super-specialty hospital (spread on 15-acre land) within the medical hub.

After statehood, the number of medical colleges has increased from 5 to 17 teaching hospitals across the State. The State Government is targeting to establish medical colleges in every district in three phases.

In the first phase, medical colleges have been established in Mahabubnagar, Siddipet, Nalgonda, and Suryapet while in the second phase, authorities are aiming to construct eight medical colleges in Mancherial, Ramagundam, Jagityal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Sangareddy.
