Hyderabad: Amid continuing controversies over land acquisition, the Congress government has issued fresh notifications to acquire land from farmers.
Despite farmers strongly opposing the acquisition of their lands, the Rangareddy district administration has issued notifications seeking land for multiple purposes.
In 2024, farmers from Kandukur mandal had opposed the acquisition of 567 acres for an industrial park. Farmers from Tatiparthy, Kurmidda and neighbouring villages had taken to the streets against the move to acquire their lands. However, unmoved by the protests, the Rangareddy district administration has now issued a fresh notification to acquire nearly 88 acres in Thimmalapally village of Kandukur mandal for the establishment of an industrial park.
Interestingly, as per the notification, the district administration claimed that the State government had exempted social impact assessment for acquiring these lands. Many small and marginal farmers in different survey numbers, including 1, 2, 3, 4 and others in the village, are set to lose their patta lands for establishing the park.
Similarly, in another notification, the Rangareddy district administration is acquiring 277 acres in Meerkhanpet in Kandukur mandal for the development of a university educational zone or allotment of house sites. These lands are being acquired in survey numbers 121 to 148 in Meerkhanpet, which falls under the Bharat Future City limits. Here too, the State government has exempted social impact assessment for acquiring the lands. Apprehensions are being raised over the notification in which the purpose is mentioned as ‘development of university educational zone or allotment of house sites’.
Likewise, another notification has been issued for the development of a greenfield radial road from the Outer Ring Road interchange at Raviryala to the Regional Ring Road at Amangal, covering a distance of 18.5 km. Accordingly, the district administration plans to acquire over four acres in Kongara Khurd village in Maheswaram mandal and Rachulur village in Kandukur mandal.
Farmers in different villages have been staging protests against industrial parks, greenfield radial roads and other land acquisition proposals. Despite the opposition, the Rangareddy district administration has issued fresh notifications for similar purposes, causing further concern among farmers.
