Crime cases dip under Secunderabad GRP, but property losses rise in 2025
The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) reported 2607 crime cases in 2025, a decline from 2835 in 2024. While thefts and bodily offences remained high, molestation and POCSO cases rose. Deaths from rail mishaps were reduced, but property losses increased to Rs 4.89 crore.
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) booked a total of 2607 cases under various crime heads this year compared to 2,835 cases in 2024, showing a dip in overall crime cases.
GRP Superintendent Chandana Deepthi presented the annual crime data on Wednesday, outlining crime trends, enforcement outcomes, seizures, death cases, and property-related offences reported across the railway network under its jurisdiction.
The GRP officials dealt with a wide spectrum of offences including 1013 cases related to ordinary thefts and 1538 cases related to bodily offences. Molestation and POCSO Act cases saw an increase from 6 in 2024 to 16 in 2025.
Meanwhile, death cases related to rail mishaps or on the premises came down to 1,317 this year as against 1,571 the previous year.
Police registered cases across major crime heads and intensified detection drives, leading to the arrest of accused persons during the year.
Chandana Deepthi said focused patrols, special drives, and intelligence-based operations helped improve detection and preventive policing. Property-related offences continued to pose challenges due to heavy passenger movement.
Special emphasis was laid on curbing drug trafficking through railway routes. In 54 NDPS Act cases registered in 2025, GRP caught 70 persons and seized a substantial quantity of contraband, including 817.824 kg of dry marijuana.
In excise-related cases, police also seized 101.25 litres of whisky, along with 80 kg of jaggery and 20 kg of alum, materials commonly used in illicit liquor preparation apart from arresting 8 persons.
The GRP also rescued a total of 500 children found in vulnerable circumstances in 2025 as against 84 in 2024. Officials ensured their rehabilitation through coordination with child welfare authorities.
Officials said the worth of the property lost increased from Rs 3.74 crore in 2024 to Rs 4.89 crore in 2025 and the value of property recovered improved from Rs 43.17 lakh in 2024 to Rs 47.22 lakh in 2025.
GRP officials said enhanced CCTV coverage, passenger awareness campaigns, and coordinated investigations contributed to improved recovery despite the rise in overall losses.
Chandana Deepthi stated that the rise in certain crime indicators reflects growing passenger volumes rather than a decline in policing.
“The technology-driven surveillance, preventive patrols, and inter-agency coordination will be further strengthened in 2026 to ensure safer rail travel and effective crime control across the Secunderabad railway zone,” she added.
