Hyderabad: Ahead of the monsoon season, the Cyberabad Police have rolled out an extensive preparedness action plan to minimise waterlogging, ease traffic congestion and ensure commuter safety, with a focus on IT corridor.
The police are engaging with IT companies and major private organisations to encourage work-from-home arrangements, staggered office timings, carpooling and increased use of public transport during periods of heavy rainfall.
Elaborating the measures, Kukatpally DCP Ritiraj said police have been holding continuous discussions with managements of IT firms and other organisations operating in high-traffic areas such as Madhapur, Hitec City and Kukatpally.
Based on lessons learned from previous monsoon seasons, the department is focusing not only on field-level infrastructure improvements but also on reducing the number of vehicles on roads during peak rainfall hours.
“We have been requesting companies to implement work from home, staggered timings and carpooling for employees. A majority of the managements have responded positively, and we expect more companies to come forward this year,” Ritiraj said.
The DCP also noted that traffic disruptions during heavy rains often worsen due to a large volume of office commuters traveling simultaneously. “By spreading out office timings and encouraging remote work where possible, we hope to reduce congestion and improve emergency response during bad weather conditions,” she said.
Ritiraj also highlighted the role of police in sharing weather-related alerts with corporate offices. “During the monsoon season, we regularly provide updates on expected bad weather. This helps companies alert employees in advance, adjust reporting times and prevent people from getting stranded on roads during heavy rainfall,” she said.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh and municipal authorities have already conducted joint inspections of several flood-prone locations within the limits. Departments concerned were directed to expedite desilting works, clear drainage channels and undertake infrastructure improvements in identified hotspots before the onset of heavy rains.
