Hyderabad: Cardiologists at Sunshine Hospitals have performed advanced non-surgical interventional procedures, which involves replacement of heart valves among patients with severe aortic stenosis.

The aortic stenosis is narrowing of the heart valves in patients, which blocks blood flow from heart to the main arteries. The team of care givers led by senior cardiologist from Sunshine Hospitals, Dr Sridhar Kasturi have performed 10 cases of non-surgical replacement of valves through small holes in groins without any general anaesthesia and surgical incisions with 100 percent success, press release said.

“Traditional treatment of severe Aortic stenosis is open heart surgery with mechanical or bioprosthetic valve replacement by opening chest wall with midline surgical incision on the central portion of chest wall. However, such complex surgery is not needed in percutaneous procedure involving non-surgical replacement of valves,” Dr Sridhar Kasturi said.
