Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) said it had detected a cyber-attack and as a result, was isolating all data centre services to take required preventive action.
Mukesh Rathi, CIO, DRL, said, “We are anticipating all services to be up within 24 hours, and we do not foresee any major impact on our operations due to this incident.”
Dr Reddy’s is an integrated pharmaceutical company, with operations across the globe covering markets such as India, USA, Russia, CIS countries and Europe.
Any cyber-attack happening in Telangana and close to the doorstep was important for the government to understand the attack pattern, what malware was used and what vulnerability was exploited, said Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries and IT Department, Government of Telangana.
The State government, which is a signatory to the Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) that Verizon brings out every year, will be filing the incidence report on what DRL’s has experienced.
In addition to the Security Operations Centre, the State hosts a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for cybersecurity jointly operated by the Department of Science and Technology, the Government of India and the Telangana government (which interacts with the private industry). The CoE will analyse this attack with the help of member cybersecurity companies.
Ranjan added, “If there is a new form of attack, there will be efforts to develop new tools and solutions to prevent such incidents in future. More critical work the companies (such as pharma) are involved in, the more they can be.”
