Hyderabad: Paediatric specialists from Kamineni Hospitals on Sunday announced that they have managed to save the life of an extremely premature infant, born at just six months of pregnancy to a couple from Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.

The couple conceived through IVF and woman got herself developed complications and had to go in for labor at 26 weeks of pregnancy at Kamineni Hospitals. “Twin boys were delivered, but due to complications, one baby succumbed to severe fundal infection. The second baby was extremely critical at birth. Remarkably, after 3 months of intensive treatment, the baby is now stable,” Dr R V Soujanya, Paediatrician and Neonatologist at Kamineni Hospitals.

The surviving baby was extremely critical. He could not cry after birth, developed severe lung problems, and required ventilator support for nearly two months. “We treated him with antibiotics, antifungal medicines, and TPN nutrition for nearly six weeks. By then, he reached 30 weeks of corrected gestational age and gained 1.05 kg in weight. Slowly, he responded to treatment, and after two months, ventilator support was removed, though oxygen was continued. At 38 weeks, the baby reached 1.7 kg and was discharged,” doctors said.
