Siddipet: A farmer, who had waited the entire day at the Siddipet Collectorate to receive a compensation cheque, died of a heart attack on the premises on Thursday.
Identified as 55-year-old Ramakrishnaiah of Thadkapally village, he had lost 2 acres and 22 guntas of land under the Ranganayaka Sagar canal. He had accompanied 26 other farmers from the village to the Collectorate to collect compensation. However, after waiting for hours, he collapsed and died on the spot. Fellow farmers rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Farmers said they had been visiting the Collectorate for the past two years seeking compensation, but their pleas had gone unanswered by the Congress government and officials. Recently, they submitted a representation to Minister G Vivek during his visit to Siddipet, following which he directed them to meet District Collector K Hymavathi. Acting on this advice, the farmers reached the Collectorate at 11 am on Thursday.
Despite making several phone calls to the Collector’s office, the farmers alleged they received no proper response and were forced to wait until 3.30 pm. It was then that Ramakrishnaiah, while stepping out to attend to a nature’s call, collapsed. His death left the group in shock.
The farmers alleged that none of the officers responded to their pleas even after his collapse. They claimed that officials remained indifferent, forcing them to arrange an ambulance on their own to shift the body back to the village.
Farmers from Thadkapally and Venkatapur, who had lost 177 acres of land under the canal, demanded immediate action against officials responsible for the delay in releasing compensation.
