GWMC issues preliminary notification for division of corporation into 66 wards

Warangal Urban: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) issued a preliminary notification for division of the corporation into 66 wards from the existing 58. The notification dated March 16 was issued in pursuance of the provisions of Telangana Municipalities (Division of Municipalities into Wards) Rules 2O2O issued in GOMs No 12 MA& UD Dept (January 30, 2021) and as per Schedule-ll of Telangana Municipalities Act 2019.
“The Residents of Warangal City are requested to file their views and suggestions if any, to the Commissioner, Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation in Head Office within seven days of the date of issue of the draft notification i.e. on or before March 23, 2021, before 5.00 PM. Any views and objections received after date and time will be summarily rejected without any reasons thereof,” said GWMC commissioner Pamela Satpathy in the notification. The GWMC has given details of the boundaries of the 66 wards in the notification.
When contacted by Telangana Today, Warangal Urban District Collector and Special Officer of GWMC Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu said the entire process of delimitation of wards would be completed by March 31. When asked when the election would be held, he said that he did not have any idea as there was no official communication on the election date so far. The election notification will likely be released by the State Election Commission (SEC) after the delimitation process is completed, he said.
The GWMC has four Assembly constituencies including Warangal East and West, Wardhannapet and Parkal, and these constituencies have 42 villages, spread over 407.21 sqkm with a total population of 10 lakh. It has 183 non-notified slums and 93 notified slums. Elections for GWMC were held in 2016 and its term ended on March 15, 2021.
