GWMC to procure 10 more sweeping machines soon
While it was decided to procure a total of 193 sanitation vehicles at a cost of Rs 38 crore from the Smart City Mission (SCM) funds, 75 of them were already bought.

Warangal Urban: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) will soon purchase ten more sweeping machines and other machines used in the Solid Waste Management (SWM) to keep the ‘Smart City’ clean. While it was decided to procure a total of 193 sanitation vehicles at a cost of Rs 38 crore from the Smart City Mission (SCM) funds, 75 of them were already bought.
“We will purchase 10 more sweeping machines with Rs 7.35 crore in a few days,” said Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Errabelli Dayakar Rao after flagging off two sweeping machines, two compact tractors, two she mobile toilets buses, two excavators and other vehicles at the civic body’s main office here on Saturday. It is said that one sweeping machine can clean the road for a stretch of 40 km per day.
“These vehicles are very useful for the cleanliness of major roads and commercial complexes. It has been proposed to purchase 11 wet and dry waste sorting machines at a cost of Rs 26.53 crore from the State government’s ‘Pattana Pragathi’ scheme funds,” Minister Errabelli said and added that Warangal would be made more beautiful soon.
“Sewage drains and nalas are regularly maintained, as well as sanitation routines. Repairs to the roads and other structures that were damaged due to heavy rains last September are being done,” the minister added. The GWMC, which has a population of over eight lakh, is generating around 400 metric tonnes of waste every day and it is being dumped at the Kakatiya SWM Park at Madikonda spreading over 31 acres of the land. The civic body is also contemplating to adopt the biomining scientific reclamation process at the Kakatiya SWM dumping yard.
The Kakatiya Solid Waste Management (SWM) Park, a major dumpyard, situated at Rampur village on the outskirts of Warangal city. In biomining, separator machines or large sieves are used to sort out waste material as per size, and soil, plastic, wood and metal waste are separated for further processing.
Meanwhile, the Minister has also enquired with the officials about the progress of the works taken up under Smart City Mission, CM Assurances, and ‘Pattana Pragathi’ scheme in the tri-cities- Warangal, Hanamkonda, Kazipet, and 42 merged villages.
Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao, Rajya Sabha member Banda Prakash, MLA Aroori Ramesh, Warangal Urban District Collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanmanthu, GWMC Commissioner Pamela Satpathy, several corporators and staff of the civic body have attended the programme.
