Hyderabad: Likening the Congress’s pre-poll pledges to worthless “bond papers,” BRS senior leader and MLA, T. Harish Rao on Saturday labelled Revanth Reddy not a “Chief Minister” but a “cutting master.”
Speaking after the launch of the ‘Congress Baaki Card’, he accused the Chief Minister of indulging either in ribbon-cutting or slashing the benefits extended to people under the BRS-initiated welfare schemes.
“The state wanted at least a 10-day Assembly session, but they spent one day ranting about Kaleshwaram and fled. They abuse the opposition and file cases against us,” he said, adding that over 700 days have passed since the Congress came to power, but what they wanted to fulfill in the first 100 days was yet to be fulfilled,” he said.
Recalling that the Congress bond papers were signed by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, he said “They distributed these as ‘Abhaya Hastham’ (hand of assurance), but the people soon realized it was ‘Achaitanya Hastham’—unconscious hand.
He recalled how Congress leaders, donning Gandhi caps, went door-to-door with “guarantee cards” ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, only for those cards to become “gossip cards” after the election.
He pointed out that the Congress leadership had promised implementation of guarantees within 100 days and to ensure legislative backing in the Assembly. But the government has instead delivered “empty words.” “They used Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for campaigns because people wouldn’t believe Revanth’s rhetoric. Now, those Gandhis fear showing their faces in Hyderabad,” he alleged, questioning why national Congress leaders are not holding the Chief Minister accountable for non-implementation.
He said that the “Congress Baaki Card” campaign was the BRS’s way of fulfilling its role as the principal opposition. “We are handing out dues cards door-to-door. BRS workers will detail the deceptions. Congress leaders should only approach people for their votes after implementing promises,” he asserted.
The BRS leader called on voters to confront Congress leaders during the ensuing local body elections and Jubilee Hills assembly constituency bye-elections.
