Hyderabad: With the Omicron variant now spreading fast across the State, is it still safe to dine out? The government stressed that they don’t intend to impose any new lockdown restrictions yet, such as closing down restaurant areas. However, some restaurants and bars have imposed rules requiring customers to show proof of vaccination to eat in indoor dining rooms.
According to infectious disease experts, the decision on dining out comes down to a personal assessment of risk. While two of the most important public health measures – wearing a face mask and maintaining physical distance – for keeping infections to a minimum is nearly impossible while dining out, it is important to realise that eating at home is still the best, safest option right now.
But if you still want to satiate your food cravings by dining out at your favourite restaurant, here are some tips and precautions you must take before considering a restaurant reservation.
Experts widely agree that outdoor dining is a much safer bet, especially if spaced out appropriately, than eating at an indoor restaurant with dozens of people, in a stuffy room. Since many restaurants are already offering additional outdoor spaces, it is better to consider open-air dining.
Also, call the restaurant beforehand to ask about hours and consider going at off-peak times for visiting. It is suggested to research the eatery’s safety and hygiene before booking a table.
Though you have to take your mask off while drinking and eating, do your best to wear one whenever possible (walking through crowded parts, waiting in the lobby, or going to the restroom).
Remember that even if you touch a surface that has an infectious virus, as long as you don’t touch your mouth, nose, or eyes you should be safe. So, when in doubt, wash your hands or use a hand sanitiser.
