Hyderabad: The Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) Telangana, representing senior residents and doctors from the State, on Tuesday condemned the serious allegations emerging from Dr Patnam Mahender Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Telangana, where MD/MS postgraduate students have reportedly been forced to protest over the alleged non-payment of stipends and inadequate basic infrastructure.
Postgraduate resident doctors are an integral part of patient care while simultaneously undergoing specialist training. Denial or delay of their legitimate stipends is unacceptable and, if proven, reflects a serious failure of institutional responsibility, HRDA said.
HRDA Telangana is concerned by allegations that students are being discouraged from raising their genuine grievances and fear victimisation. Such actions, if established, are contrary to the principles of transparency, accountability, and academic freedom expected from every medical institution, HRDA said in a press release.
The doctors’ association urged the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), KNRUHS, the National Medical Commission (NMC), and the Government of Telangana to immediately inquire into these allegations.
The HRDA demanded immediate release of all pending stipend payments, urgent inspection of the institution by the competent authorities, immediate rectification of deficiencies in hostel facilities, drinking water, sanitation, and other essential infrastructure, and assurance that no MD/MS postgraduate student is subjected to harassment or victimization for peacefully raising genuine concerns.
