Hyderabad: The State government has launched efforts to streamline and modernise medical infrastructure and health care services at Niloufer Hospital. As part of these initiatives, on Monday, Health Minister, T Harish Rao inaugurated a Rs 2 crore worth CT scan machine, in addition to launching a neo-natal skill laboratory that will impart training to young paediatrics.
After the launch of the diagnostic equipment, the Health Minister said that very soon, exclusive paediatric cardiology services will be made available to poor patients at Niloufer Hospital.
“So far, we have not been able to conduct free heart surgeries for infants with congenital heart diseases. Such children used to get referred to OGH or private hospitals. We have set up an expert committee of doctors, who will submit a detailed plan on starting paediatric cardiology facilities at Niloufer Hospital,” Harish Rao said.
After launching the diagnostic services, Harish held a detailed review meeting with all the heads of various medical departments of Niloufer Hospital. The Minister directed TSMSIDC officials to coordinate with senior doctors to ensure that life-saving drugs and other consumables are available all the time at Niloufer Hospital.
Hospital authorities informed the Minister that every year Niloufer Hospital earns nearly Rs 10 crore by treating patients under the Aarogyasri insurance scheme.
Parents from other States including Maharashtra and Karnataka also come to Niloufer for treatment of their infants, they said.
“Through Ayushman Bharat insurance scheme, we want to extend paediatric services to infants arriving at Niloufer Hospital from Karnataka and Maharashtra,” Harish Rao said.
The Health Minister made it clear that private contractors who are in charge of maintaining sanitation at Gandhi, Osmania and Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad will be blacklisted if they fail to discharge their duties properly.
