Hyderabad: As the last of the Ganesha idols were being immersed in water bodies across the city on Sunday, the GHMC teams spread out to take up the sanitation efforts along the key procession routes leading to Hussain Sagar.
Heaps of confetti, disposable plates and glasses, meal plates, idol decoration materials, and other waste material were being swept, picked up and cleared on the roads in Begum Bazar, MJ Market, Hyderabad GPO, Abids Circle, Basheer Bagh, Liberty, Telugu Thalli flyover, and NTR Gardens.
Since the start of Vinayaka Chavithi festivities, the GHMC teams have collected over 11,000 tons of excess waste and transported it to the processing centre in Jawahar Nagar. A thorough sanitation drive is being conducted across the city on Sunday and Monday, according to an official release.
However, several road stretches and internal colony roads remain bereft of the sanitation efforts, with waste and debris from the festivities continuing to be strewn around. Residents at several places reported that the accumulation of refuse along the streets was resulting in increased inconvenience and concerns over hygiene. Sanitation workers had yet to address the issue, leaving the waste to continue accumulating and further deteriorating the condition of the internal roads.
