Hyderabad: Inflows into the Himayatsagar reservoir have declined significantly since Friday morning, providing major relief to hundreds of families residing along the Musi River. Following the decrease in water levels, HMWSSB officials have shut eight out of ten floodgates.

Officials monitoring the reservoir said the current water level stands at 1,761.75 feet, against its Full Tank Level (FTL) of 1,763.50 feet.

On Friday morning, Himayatsagar recorded inflows of 3,500 cusecs and an outflow of 5,215 cusecs. Considering the ongoing inflows into the twin reservoirs, water will be drawn to meet the city’s demand.

Heavy inflows in the Musi River led to inundation of the Moosarambagh and Puranapul bridges.

The Rajendra Nagar police shut the ORR service road (Exit 17), restricting traffic movement. Traffic was also diverted at Moosarambagh due to the impact on the bridge. “We are monitoring the inflows and will reopen the service road based on HMWSSB officials’ instructions,” said a traffic police officer from Rajendra Nagar.

Meanwhile, inflows into Osman Sagar have also decreased, with recorded inflows of 500 cusecs at 6 pm.
