Hyderabad: Continuing with the crackdown on persons selling marijuana, the Prohibition and Excise Department here on Wednesday arrested a person on charges of selling chocolates laced with marijuana.
P Durga Prasad, 42, was getting these chocolate packets from Rajasthan and selling them to construction workers hailing from Bihar and Odisha, said Serilingampally excise officer Gandhi B Naik.
He said Prasad was detained when an Excise team was checking vehicles at Khanamet on Tuesday night.
“We checked his car and found a bag containing chocolates that contained marijuana,” he said. This was the second time that Prasad has been caught by the enforcement agencies. “We are trying to collect more details from him on how he was getting the chocolates from Rajasthan,” Naik said.
Senior officials said surveillance has been intensified across the city to trace the peddlers. Since intelligence network was strengthened, the excise teams started checking vehicles at strategic locations to zero in on the peddlers.
