Hyderabad: RTA officials gear up to curb illegal activities of brokers
Even though an online system has been introduced for transparent services in the transport department, the involvement of middlemen seems to be continuing
Hyderabad: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials have geared up to curb the illegal activities of middlemen and brokers in the premises.
Even though an online system has been introduced for transparent services in the transport department, the involvement of middlemen seems to be continuing. Thus, authorities have now decided to use surveillance cameras powered with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to put a check on them.
These surveillance cameras capture a photo of everyone who enters the RTA office and subsequently generate a unique code for them. Based on that individual code, the system verifies how many times the person concerned came to the office on a particular day or during that week.
It is learnt that, with the help of such information saved in the database, the RTA security personnel analyse the report and submit it to the transport department officials. The suspects will first be manually identified, tracked and traced and warned by the officials to stop their illegal businesses on the RTA premises. However, if they do not listen, the help of police will also be sought seeking them to take necessary action.
“People should use the online system to avail the services. We are taking steps to ensure that any work required in RTA offices is done completely online and to completely stop the middleman system,” said a senior official from transport department.
Already few AI cameras were installed at the RTA office in Khairatabad and the movements of those entering the premises are being monitored. Dozens of agents were identified as well. With the AI cameras, the movement of middlemen has reduced. Depending on its functions, authorities plan to install such surveillance cameras at the RTA offices across the city and State in future.
