Hyderabad: It has been a cool and cloudy Wednesday in the city, with the cloud cover and light to moderate rains providing a much needed respite from summer heat. Most areas in the city saw light to moderate rainfall with highest rainfall recorded in the city being 50.3 mm at Quthbullapur.
The cloud cover, which was preceded by a beautiful ring around the sun on Wednesday, also cooled the city significantly with many areas recording a temperature of less than 30 degree Celsius and day temperature hovering around 24 degree Celsius to 26 degree Celsius.
A temperature of 38 degree Celsius was recorded at Kapra, making it the highest recorded temperature in the city, according to weather information recorded at various Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) by Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS).
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rain is to be expected for most of the upcoming week, with an expected maximum temperature of 35 degree Celsius. It might also reach 39 degree Celsius towards June 7 or 8. The TSPDS also forecasts a similar weather pattern for the next three days.
Also according to the IMD, Telangana is expected to see lightning and thunderstorms over the next five days, owing to the possible onset of southwest monsoon on June 3. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected till June 5, as it occurred in a few places in the State on Wednesday. The State Disaster Management Department also issued a thunder/lightning warning for the next few days.
GHMC forms monsoon emergency teams
Gearing up for the monsoon, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has constituted monsoon emergency teams.
These teams will be pressed into service to clear water logging on roads and low lying areas apart from taking up works like removing uprooted trees, clearing tangled wires, etc, during the rains.
Meanwhile, desilting operations are underway in parts of the city, mentioned Municipal
Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) principal secretary Arvind Kumar on Wednesday and tweeted, “#Monsoon @GHMCOnline has taken up intensive desiltation all major nalas & drains – 24 excavators & about 30 JCBs working In addition, monsoon emergency teams – 128 Mini-mobile, 67 teams with bigger vehicles & 139 static labour teams put in place wef 01/06/21 @KTRTRS.”
