Hyderabad: The State government on Saturday launched medical infrastructure works worth Rs 10.91 crore at the Fever Hospital, which includes a state-of the-art outpatient block to accommodate over 1,000 patients, a dialysis facility at a cost of Rs 50 lakh and a high-end mortuary facility worth Rs 60 lakh.
Health Minister T Harish Rao, laying the foundation stone for the new outpatient block at Fever Hospital, also launched 13 hearse vehicles and three ambulances, meant to provide exclusive services to needy patients in the State.
“Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is very keen to ensure that quality healthcare facilities are available to the urban poor in areas under the GHMC. In the last month or so, major renovation and new projects have been launched at all the top tertiary hospitals in Hyderabad,” Harish Rao said.
The launch of 13 hearse vehicles is part of the efforts to improve and provide proper services for relatives of deceased patients in government hospitals. The State government has already released Rs 32.54 crore for the development of 61 mortuaries across Telangana. A high-end state-of-the-art mortuary at a cost of Rs 32.54 crore is also coming up at Osmania General Hospital (OGH). The Health Minister also reminded that earlier Aarogyasri healthcare coverage for a family was limited to Rs 2 lakh, which has been enhanced to Rs 5 lakh.
“As far as incurring expenditure for healthcare, Telangana is spending about Rs 1,690 crore, which is among the highest in the country. There is a huge patient-load at Gandhi Hospital and Fever Hospital, which is hampering the quality of healthcare. As a result, the Chief Minister has given a green signal to construct four multispecialty hospitals in and around Hyderabad,” Harish Rao said.
Senior health officials including Director of Medical Education K Ramesh Reddy, Director, IPM and Superintendent, Fever Hospital, Dr K Shankar and local public representatives were present.
