Hyderabad: The IT industry in Hyderabad is operating with less than 30 per cent employees working from office and this number is likely to touch 60-65 per cent by end of 2021, while never seeing full return to office any time soon. Even the employees returning to office are coming voluntary depending on the project needs and there is no compulsion set by companies – both small and large enterprises – for the employees.
Industry body members in Hyderabad stated that in the last one year, technology has developed so much that a seamless work from home (WFH) can be provided and companies have been able to address issues relating to cyber-security as well.
“While a survey done by us a month back showed that companies are looking at return to office (RTO) at 30 per cent capacity by July and maybe touch 65 per cent by December, the second wave of Covid-19 cases may have pushed these plans further. Majority of the companies are seeing that there is no immediate need for employees to RTO and a delay in RTO will not have any huge impact on productivity,” said Bharani K Aroll, president, Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA).
Aroll also mentioned that vaccination of younger generation (millenials and up to 40 age group), who form the average age group in the IT industry, will play a major role in increasing the capacity of of RTO. On the question of attrition Kiran Cherukuri, vice-president, Hysea said that till December quarter of last fiscal there was no attrition, but the last quarter of January to March did see the attrition go up marginally due to pent up demand.
