Sometimes, simplicity is all you need to win the internet. And the clips posted by Japanese Consul General in Seattle, Hisao Inagaki, are proof of that. A project started in August last year, Inagaki makes origami cranes and shows his creations with the same message everyday – that of wishing health and peace for the world. He has made 357 cranes so far.
While there is no ‘out of the world’ quality to the clips, the videos went viral when a Twitter user shared the Consul General’s profile online. The mundane nature of the clips has won over netizens who are now also sharing trivia and other interesting details about the art of origami.
His users diligently wait for the day he finishes this project and often wonder in the comments what he plans to do with all the origami cranes. The tension has built among fans as he inches towards his 365th crane.
For the unversed, origami is the art of paper folding often associated with the Japanese culture. A person generally starts with a flat square sheet of paper and creates a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. Most origami practitioners discourage the use of glue, pasts and cuts.
