Hyderabad: From 27 years to 75 years, the bypoll has attracted candidates from varying age groups.
A total of 58 candidates from various age groups have entered the electoral fray, each hoping to test their luck at the ballot box. The field includes youngsters, middle-aged contenders and senior citizens. For example, 75-year-old Racha Subhadra Reddy, a resident of Banjara Hills and a retired official from the State Department of Handloom and Textiles, is contesting as an independent candidate on the Socialist Party (India) ticket in the Jubilee Hills by-election. She is the eldest candidate among the 58 in the fray.
“As a government employee, I know the voters’ pulse and what they want from my side. If I become an MLA, I will spend every penny of the government money allotted for the development of the constituency,” Subhadra Reddy said. “Here, age is not a barrier for the welfare and development of the constituency,” she said.
Abhilas Bethi (Naveen), aged 27, is the youngest candidate in the electoral fray. A native of Mamanur in Khammam district is contesting on the Telugu Rajadhikara Samithi Party’s ticket. A self-employed entrepreneur, Bethi aims to provide employment to all unemployed youth.
The remaining candidates are in the age group between 28 and 67. This mix of candidates is expected to bring a variety of perspectives and experiences to the election. The candidates are actively campaigning, reaching out to voters through rallies, door-to-door visits and social media platforms.
