Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar said on Monday that efforts are on to develop Karimnagar as a clean and green city.
As part of it, a variety of sanitation instruments was purchased by spending Rs 8.60 crore. Stating that two sweeping machines were already purchased, he informed to buy two more sweeping machines soon to maintain the road in the town clean.
Earlier, sanitation workers used to face severe hardship due to lack of sanitation instruments. However, the problem has been solved after the Telangana government came to power.
Municipal Corporation of Karimangar got Rs 4 crore by winning safaimitra suraksha challenge award. The entire amount would be spent to take up sanitation works, the Minister informed while inaugurating an Excavator vehicle purchased by MCK at corporation office premises on Monday.
Kamalkar said that besides finding a permanent solution to the dumping yard, it was also decided to construct storm water drainage by spending Rs 133 crore.
Stating that footpath encroachment has become a big problem in the town, the Minister informed that a taskforce committee along with police, municipal and revenue officials was formed to remove encroachments. Corporation commissioner would lead the committee.
While Rythu Bazar and other vegetable markets were lying vacant, vendors were selling vegetables on roads causing inconvenience to traffic. It is continuous process and all the encroachments would be removed in the near future, he expressed confidence.
Mayor Y Sunil Rao, deputy mayor Challa Swaroopa Rani, commissioner Seva Islawath, and corporators participated in the programme.
