Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday accused the Congress government of pushing government educational institutions into crisis, after students of a Tribal Welfare School staged a sit-in demanding hygienic food on the Palakurthy-Station Ghanpur main road in Gudur village of Jangaon district.
Rama Rao pointed out that all sections of Telangana were on the streets against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s misrule, with school children being forced to protest on a regular basis for basic needs like food. He stated that the incident was an example of growing unrest among students.
He said under the Congress regime, there had been 112 food poisoning incidents in government institutions, leading to the hospitalisation of 2,422 students and 123 deaths. He also criticised the absence of a full-time Education Minister in the State for over two years, while Revanth Reddy who also holds the Education portfolio, appears to be busy with real estate settlements.
BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao remarked that welfare residential institutions, which were once known for producing IIT and MBBS rankers, were now facing severe shortages. Referring to student protests at Gudur, he said there were no adequate teachers and that food was not being supplied on time. He said students were gripped by fear over reported occult practices on campus.
He questioned the inaction of officials as girl students were forced to stage protests instead of studying peacefully. He demanded an immediate inquiry into the functioning of the school, strict action against those responsible and urgent provision of security and basic facilities to students.
