Hyderabad: With the news of possible vaccine in place and also public perception towards Covid-19 slowly changing in the last three months, IT companies in Hyderabad are also looking at increased numbers in return to office (RTO) scenario.
Shifting gears from a previous survey wherein 50 per cent of Hyderabad IT companies were looking at 90-100 per cent work from home (WFH), now more than 50 per cent of companies are looking at 40 per cent work from office (WFO) by June 2021, says a survey by Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (Hysea).
However, there will be not much change in WFO till March with 60 per cent of companies planning to have less than 20 per cent of their workforce operating from office. And by end of 2021, depending on the vaccine availability and other factors, large and very large companies are looking at WFO at 50-70 per cent. Currently, about 55 per cent of companies have only 0-5 per cent of employees working from office and 31 per cent having less than or equal to 20 per cent working from office.
“While the first two surveys focused on WFH and future of office, this survey was focused on RTO and how companies are planning space utilization, remove perception towards RTO and how the productivity was during the WFH period,” says Bharani Kumar Aroll, president, Hysea.
In terms of the model to be adopted, there was no definitive answer on whether they will allow only essential employees or look at alternative/partial days of WFO. About 60 per cent of the offices are open in a restricted way for critical resources only and 27 per cent are fully functional currently, the survey said.
Speaking about the level of productivity achieved during the post-Covid world, Aroll said while productivity did remain at 90 per cent for most of the employees, major reason impacting productivity were the environment at home. Broadband, power cuts, and cybersecurity issues were not very high in numbers in terms of impacting productivity.
