Hyderabad: Nearly 16,000 students failed to appear for the intermediate public examinations (IPE) that commenced on Wednesday. Barring a few incidents of students being denied entry into centres as they arrived late, the exams passed off peacefully in 1,495 centres set up across the State.
As many as 5,14,598 students registered for the second-language paper – I, 4,98,695 appeared and 15,903 were absent. On the first day, exams were conducted for Telugu, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, and Arabic language papers.
Despite the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TG BIE) extending a grace time of five minutes, some students turned up 7 to 10 minutes late at the centres. For instance, at a centre in Government Junior College in Jagityal district headquarters, a student arrived late and was denied entry. A similar incident occurred in Nizamabad district headquarters, where a student who arrived late was not allowed inside the centre.
To ensure that question papers reach the centres in time, the Board directed its officials to collect question papers from Police stations five minutes earlier than the scheduled time. Generally, officials collect the papers at 8.30 am, but due to traffic issues in Hyderabad and some other areas, authorities were instructed to collect them at 8:25 am.
TG BIE Secretary S Krishna Aditya, who visited several centres in the city, inspected arrangements, interacted with staff, and reviewed the implementation of guidelines to ensure smooth and fair conduct of the examinations.
