Adilabad:About 16,000 students belonging to Adilabad district have benefited from the State government’s decision to pass those who failed in the Intermediate first-year exam. The move brought relief to students and parents alike who were upset with the results.
Students studying Class X and Intermediate II year were promoted to higher classes following the impossibility of examinations due to Covid-19 induced lockdown. However, students of Intermediate I year appeared in the examination even though 70 per cent of the syllabus was covered, from October 25 to November 3. The Board of Intermediate Education announced the results on December 16.
But, a major proportion of students did not perform well in the exam. A few students were forced to end their lives depressed over their poor academic performance. The parent community criticized the board for conducting examinations without completing the syllabus and for playing with the lives of the pupils. Student unions launched widespread protests against it.
Responding to the outcry of both parents and students unions, the State government announced that all Intermediate I year students, who failed in examinations, would be passed by awarding pass marks. In the results of the Intermediate I year, 5,592 students passed in all subjects as against the total 9,941 pupils who appeared in the examinations in Adilabad district, reflecting 56 per cent of pass. A total of 2,915 students passed in the results when compared to the total of 8,366 students who appeared on the tests in Mancherial district, suggesting 35 percent of pass.
Meanwhile, 3,104 students passed in all the subjects as against the total of 5,208 students who appeared in the examinations in KumramBheemAsifabad district, indicating a pass percentage of 58. As many as 4,350 pupils cleared all the subjects out of the total 7,924 students who attended the tests in Nirmal district, showing 55 per cent of pass.
The government’s decision to award pass marks brought relief to 4,349 students of Adilabad, 5,451 pupils of Nirmal, while 2,194 students belonging to Mancherial and 3,574 students from KumramBheemAsifabad districts were benefited from the move. In all, 15,568 students of the erstwhileAdilabad district found respite by the decision.
