Hyderabad: The Hyderabad unit of National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of an espionage case from Andhra Pradesh police and issued a fresh FIR against 20 people who are allegedly involved in the case.
According to NIA, a criminal conspiracy was hatched by some unidentified intelligence officers/agents to carry out anti-national activities and started obtaining crucial/prohibited information pertaining to Eastern and Western seacoasts of lndia, particularly of the places like Visakhapatnam, Nellore and parts of Gujarat etc., from a few lndian security forces personnel and also civilians, through social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp etc. by using foreign telephone and Indian telephone numbers during 2014-2020.
The disclosure of the sensitive information was likely to affect the sovereignty, integrity and security of India, the NIA said.
During 2014-2020, some unidentified Pakistani intelligence officers/agents using a Pakistani Telephone number 923243428487, established communication with some of the suspected persons, who were the personnel working in paramilitary forces like BSF/CRPF and also with civilians in India and hatched a criminal conspiracy thereby some of the crucial/prohibited information connected to Eastern and Western seacoasts of India, which are official secrets, are being transmitted to hostile agencies, causing likely damage to the unity, integrity and security of India.
