Hyderabad: Nawab Najaf Ali Khan, the grandson of seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, has strongly condemned the recent statements made by Nizamabad MP, Dharmapuri Arvind, regarding the renaming of the district.
During a recent meeting, the Nizamabad MP stated that if the BJP comes to power in the State, the name of Nizamabad should be changed to Indur. He claimed that the district’s original name was Indur and that it was altered later due to a political decision and suggested that restoring the original name would facilitate the region’s development.
Najaf Ali Khan remarked that dragging the name of Seventh Nizam, who passed away 58 years ago, into this political debate reflects either historical ignorance or deliberate malice.
“The remarks made by the sitting Member of Parliament from Nizamabad against my grandfather are highly objectionable, condemnable, and unbecoming of a constitutional office-holder. Such language amounts to a reckless distortion of history and an insult not merely to an individual, but to the collective memory of the nation,” said Nawab Najaf Ali Khan.
He further emphasised that the Seventh Nizam’s contributions to humanity, governance, infrastructure, education, health, and social harmony are well-documented and internationally acknowledged.
He pointed out that the ruler served all communities without distinction of caste or religion and is remembered as one of the most secular rulers in Indian history. “These are not opinions; they are historical facts. He did not rule with tyranny nor did he exercise power in an arbitrary or cruel manner,” Khan added.
